At your initial consultation we will take an x-ray of that tooth and Dr. Goodman will go over the cost of a crown and then refer you to an endodontist for the root canal.
Understanding the Importance of Treatment
Root canals are the hollow chambers within each tooth. These canals reach to the bottom of the tooth roots. When a patient has a deep cavity that has infected the pulp of the tooth, a root canal procedure is often necessary to treat painful symptoms and remove any infected tissue. Signs of infection include sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures, swelling, pain, and a throbbing sensation. If infection is left untreated, the patient may lose the tooth and require a dental implant or dental bridge to replace its structure.
The Root Canal Procedure
The root canal procedure begins by creating access hole, and cleaning out the damaged and infected areas of the tooth. The Endodontist will remove the nerve and infected tissue from the pulp chamber and slightly widen the root canal to prepare it for a filling made of a biocompatible, rubber-like material. Once this material is in place, the pulp chamber will be packed with cotton and sealed with a temporary filling.
During a follow-up appointment, Dr. Goodman will remove the temporary filling and cotton and fill the pulp chamber with a tooth-colored dental composite. The tooth will then typically be repaired and strengthened with a <a href="/contact" contact"="" data-cke-saved-href="/contact">schedule a consultation with Dr. Goodman.
